Release From Persimmon Homes – October 17
One of the biggest junior football clubs in Lincolnshire has managed to win big after receiving a £750 donation from a national housebuilder.
Greenbank Crusaders U15s Football Team were handed the cash gift by Persimmon Homes Nottingham as part of their Healthy Communities initiative which is aimed at amateur sports teams and individuals aged 21 years and under.
Persimmon will hand out £750 to either an individual or sports team in the area with the money to be spent on sports kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.
In January 2018 Persimmon’s 30 businesses over England, Scotland and Wales will choose a team or individual to represent them in the grand final. An online public vote will decide the overall winner, with one individual or group scooping the £200,000 top prize to create a lasting legacy and two runners-up winning £50,000 each. The other 27 finalists will win £5,000 each.
Steve Jones, assistant manager, for Greenbank Crusaders U15 Football Team, said: “We’d like to thank Persimmon Homes Nottingham for their donation to our club.
“Since our inception on Greenbank Drive in 1978 we have evolved into the biggest junior football club in the county and we are very proud of our achievements.
“Currently around 300 young people use our training facilities, come along to our training sessions and play for one of our 25 league teams.
“The club has very strong links to the community and the teams rely solely on our own fundraising events and the support of local businesses.”
“The money will be used to purchase some news kits and replace old and tired equipment, everyone involved in the team is thrilled.
Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “We understand that many junior football teams, despite their size, are struggling for funding.
“It’s thanks to teams such as Greenbank Crusaders U15s that youngsters are encouraged to get into sport, which can have a huge impact on their confidence and future health.
“We wish all the team the best of luck in their future endeavours and look forward to seeing them in their new kits.”
