Greenbank went back into competitive action, buoyed by last weeks away win at Horncastle.

The visitors to NK were a big, strong looking Ruston Sports team, with mutual friends on either side.

A brisk wind behind the Bocas back during the first half made it a little difficult, but both teams started well. Ruston’s had the first clear cut chance, when the left winger got in behind the Bocas back line, and only an onrushing Zane Redfern in the Bocas goal forced the player to shoot wide.

A really unfortunate moment led to the first goal. What can only be described as a toe punt by Finn Charles, led to a viciously spinning ball, that slipped through the away ‘keepers gloves. Not a moment befitting of the game in front of us.

Greenbank put the foot down and extended their lead, Josh Robinson, Mr calmness personified in the opposition box, finishing in off the post after an Aidan Malia cut back. A further assist from Malia, with a clever ball over the back of the defence, found an onrushing Charlie Warner, the outcome was in little doubt once he was bearing down on the ‘keeper, the left winger slotted a lovely finish under the onrushing Rustons keeper.

Warner added his second before half time, a lovely volleyed finish into the far corner, made it 4-0 at the break. It could’ve been more, had Nathan Balding’s speculative effort been an inch or two lower, after that cannoned the bar. The 1-on-1 miss early in the first half by Rustons was looking costly.

Bocas ran the changes in the second half, looking to get their first clean sheet of the season and extended their lead when superb work down the left wing by Morgan Booth, left him 1-on-1 with the Ruston’s ‘keeper. The angle was tight and just when it looked like Booth was going to try and sneak one past the ‘keeper, he played a lovely square ball to Charlie Dye, who had the simplest finish in the empty net. Dye goes down on the score sheet, but Booth came away with great credit for the assist.

Dye added a second with a great front post finish and Charles added his 4th in 2 games when he got round the left hand side and slotted one into the near post.

A proper team performance that the coaching staff have been asking for, leaves Bocas with 2 wins from 2 in competitive action, with a break next week before a tough test when Welton Bombers visit the following week.
